Well it’s official. There will be no Golden Globes televised this year. However, fans of hour long news confrences talking about the strike will be happy to know that’s what will take it’s place. They also will sprinkle in the announcement of the winners in the broadcast. My dream of seeing a pitiful show is smashed, I was really hoping to see Rumer Willis steal the spotlight and accept all the awards for everyone. That way she could at least get a little self esteem since she has to look the way she does.

Grammy Nominees
Posted by tvondvdcritic on December 6, 2007
The nominees for the Grammy Awards were announced today. Now, I haven’t done any articles on music, I kinda wanted to stick to tv, however I’m a big music fan as well. Although I’m not happy with most of these people up for awards.
I have my own ‘best of the year’. Here it is.
Album:
Feist “The Reminder” - Best album all year, my favorite due to quality and sentimental reasons
Rihanna “Good Girl Gone Bad” - A guilty pleasure, what can I say?
New Pornographers “Challengers” - Probably the best alternative album all year, well written songs, everything works.
Blonde Redhead “23″ - Haunting melodies and intriguing songwriting.
PJ Harvey “White Chalk” - A new direction for her, and it works.
Song:
Feist “1 2 3 4″
Wilco “Impossible Germany”
Shins “Phantom Limb”
Arcade Fire “No Cars Go”
Rihanna “Umbrella”
Here’s a full list of the Grammy nominees

American Gladiators For a New Generation
Posted by tvondvdcritic on November 28, 2007
Who doesn’t remember American Gladiators? Well guess what? Now even the new generation of youth will be polluted by this wonderfully bad show. NBC is bringing back the show in a revamped format with hosts Laila Ali and Hulk Hogan. If that alone isn’t bad enough to get you to watch I don’t know what is.
I fondly remember watching this show and eating rice crispy treats as I was glued to the set seeing if Blaze or Gold could bring down their opponents on the wall or knock them off in jousting. How into this show was I? I owned the nintendo game, which was horribly bad, but oh so good. I threw my controller on more than one occassion while always losing in the final round since I could never do the rope game or the powerball. That’s not all. I also owned the entire trading card set of American Gladiators. You read that right. I own, and still have, American Gladiator trading cards. In fact, I came across them in my garage a while back, wondering what ever happened to Zap and Siren (the deaf one).

Bad Actor of The Week: Bai Ling
Posted by tvondvdcritic on November 26, 2007
I thought I would do a weekly spotlight profile of a bad/struggling actor since bad acting is one of my favorite things. The first person that stood out to me was a woman by the name of Bai Ling. I’ve heard about her strange ways but I got my first glimpse of her this weekend in a clip from TMZ of her posing for pictures for celeb crazy fans who wanted a piece of anybody they could find. Of all people this is who they get. They could have at least got that unfunny guy from MADTV, Aries Spears. He was desperate for attention after being rejected from a nightclub in LA. He probably would have paid them to ooh and ahh over him. When asked what movies shes been in, no one knew, so Bai Ling proudly reminded them that she was in ‘Southland Tales’. Bai Ling isn’t a part of the celebrity alphabet list. And after hearing her speak I hardly think she even knows the American alphabet anyway. I guess you could say she isn’t ‘BaiLing-guel’.
Bai is a self proclaimed ‘alien’ from another planet, even though it’s documented she was born in China. I didn’t know aliens lived to be FORTY SIX years old. On her resume, shes credited for acting in Star Wars episode 3, where her scenes were all cut and never made the movie, a two episode guest appearance on ‘Touched By An Angel’ as Jean Chang, and VH1’s ‘But Can They Sing’ where she gives a vivacious performance of ‘Like A Virgin’. I think if I ever stared in a Juicy Juice commercial my acting career would be more successful than hers.
In the above clip, Ling appears in an episode of ‘Lost’ as a tattoo artist. This role is going to be reaccuring so hopefully her bad acting can continue to shine through.

My Black Friday Receipt
Posted by tvondvdcritic on November 25, 2007
My favorite shopping day has come and gone, and this year was a bit of a letdown. Maybe because I have most of everything that was on sale, my purchasing was limited a bit. I ended up with the following:
Six Feet Under: The Complete Series ($119.99)
Extras: Season 1 & 2 ($13.49 each)
24: Season 2 ($24.99)
Family Guy: Season 4 ($14.99)
House: Seasons 1 & 2 ($12.99 each)
Seinfeld: Seasons 1 & 2 ($14.99 each)
A couple of those things were for Christmas gifts, and the HBO sets were for me. My receipt total was pretty low considering all I got. Hope everyone had a good day of shopping, I did despite the lack of choices.

America’s Best Bad TV Show
Posted by tvondvdcritic on November 25, 2007
As if my reasons to hate MTV aren’t plenty enough, Randy Jackson of all people puts one more addition to my list. “America’s Best Dance Crew” is scheduled to premiere near the beginning of next year. First of all, what a ridiculous name. Second, don’t we have enough of these shows? So you think you can dance, Dancing with the stars and I’m sure a countless amount of other imitations I’ve never heard of seems to be enough to me.
I have honestly not tuned into MTV since about 3 years ago, however, I do know that they play nothing but bad reality shows (and I mean stupid bad) and this will soon take it’s place amongst some of the worst I’m sure. One more time slot that MTV could be using to show actual music, not that today’s music is any good anyway, but that’s a different story.
Auditions take place next month if anyone is interested in being a part of bad TV.

Alert The Party Planning Commitee
Posted by tvondvdcritic on November 25, 2007
Everyone’s favorite (especially mine) uptight Dunder-Mifflin accountant is pregnant. Angela Kinsey who plays Angela Martin on ‘The Office’ and her husband are expecting their first child in May.
Congratulations are a must, however what I’m really happy for is what this will do to her storyline. Dwight and Angela having a baby? Pleasure overload. I can imagine how messed up that kid would be. Hurry up and get off strike would ya so we can get this great show back on the air and have Dwight plant his Schrute seed.

Black Friday Deals- Bestbuy
Posted by tvondvdcritic on November 20, 2007
Possibly my favorite day of shopping all year is Black Friday. Yes the day that everyone loves to hate. I personally do not mind standing in line for hours if that means getting something I really want for super cheap. Imagine my disappointment then when today I saw the bestbuy ad for this Friday. Nothing that makes me wanna get out of bed at 3 AM and go wait in line. However, assuming they still are in stock by the time I roll out of bed (shopping tip: last year I went to bestbuy and target at around 10 AM and still was able to get everything I wanted without many people there, I think everyone gives up around that time and stops showing up.) I would like to pick up more seasons of House that will be on sale as well as some HBO shows like Six Feet Under, Rome and possibly the Sopranos.
I’ll continue to update the Black Friday bargains as soon as I come across them. Good luck shoppers.
